Have just returned from a wonderful trip to Phuket, stayed at Rocky Beach in the north part which is less busy than southeastern areas, great resort and good bays. We hired a big motorbike for only 400 baht per day and would drive around the total region. So many tremendous places to eat, our cherished spot was Ahan thai Aroy which had the most extraordinary view over the beach, the staff was rather friendly and the food so yummy, we went for sunrise drinks. My boyfriend and I had a great time in Phuket and will be back for Easter.

I wouldn't mind if everyone got on the plane, put their ipods on and were quiet the whole flight. But in reality... Early morning flights and overnight flights I expect people to be fairly quiet and considerate.

Daytime flights it's fine if their is a group off talkative friendly people, provided they're not disturbing people by being loud or walking around a lot (if you're up a lot someones getting bumped or has a butt in their face). But if you can hear them 3 rows away they're probably too loud.

I work in Law Enforcement and find that with a loud group it often helps to be friendly with the group, then if you have to tell them to quiet down they don't take it as the mean FA bugging them.

I would be really annoyed if I complained to the FA and they didn't even try (and then hid in the front of the plane). I probably wouldn't write a letter just for that and I've been known to write a couple letters in my day.

Heck yes, representing Rochester.

I'm glad that a quarrel between two misfit flight attendants launched my home city into the national spotlight. Oh well, beggars can't be choosers I guess...

I agree! I used to work for Republic Airlines (my first airline) we, too, had 2 FAs and I usually worked in the front. When mainline FAs came on the plane we always had to hear the "wow this plane is so small" or "can this even fly?" like.. shut up and sit down.

My second airline, was a legacy. Its such a different mentality. I had more 'fun' working for the regional next to the legacy. Everyone pitched in and did the job, and it got done. At mainline.. if you were C you did trash.. B did the galley and announcements and A did first. Case closed, period, the end. No one helped each other out. Now, I attribute that partly to the fact that most working at a legacy have been there for 15+ years and are set in their ways.. and cannot accept change. While thats not true of all of them, its true for a lot of them. We got to bid for positions, so you could work "B" for 10 years, if you can hold it.. and never have to pick up trash.

Now, I'm a "hybrid" and I love it. We all pitch in, and we all help each other out.

Thats my 2cents.

I am still laughing from the first part of the post. I never say that I have seen it all and this just goes to prove it! I thought that my passengers could a bit interesting.

As far as the lead/aft situation, things are different in a smaller airline than at a major. I work for Comair, I have been told is a different 'level' than the one you mentioned, and bid lead simply because I find it too hot in the aft. The aft flight attendant though can come and go as she/he pleases as long as safety is done.

I was asked by a Delta flight attendant why I picked up trash as the lead and the aft flight attendant made an announcement before. Honestly, I don't think that it really matters who picks up trash as long as it's done and that some Mainline flight attendants are too stuck up for their own good.

What is your opinion?

I think ultimately how you act as a passenger and how the crew should respond depends on the route. Flights to LAS, MBJ, UVF, BGI, etc. all go without saying should be fun friendly and a blast. And so crew shouldnt feel they need to be heavy handed.

But if your a drunken frat boy being ACTUALLY louder than the infamous crying baby during flight than you need to sit down and shut up.

On the note of ADQ's and guest complaints... I find it truely sad to hear that you do all you can to avoid a write up. I find the secret is to document your ass before that drunk even has the time to get home and write an email. Those trusty CSAs at the top of the bridge can always be a key resource in identifying the bad boys of a flight.

If that doesnt work you can always shout down to the rampies and ask them to "delay" their bags.

I agree with you completely about bars in airports. It boggles my mind how the same company (or other times the state/country) who owns the airport can profit off airline landing fees, can also allow bars.

Its like putting fuel and a lighter in the same room with a pyro completely aware of what could happen. Factor in that roughly 60-75% of people have to take something (often booze) in order to fly (in a tin can spiralling in the air at 30,000ft at 500km/hr). So CSA or FA meets intox and intox gets denied boarding.. the continuation is that now under Positive Bag Match the airline must remove the passenger's bags from the plane, which usually requires a total offload of the plane. Remember that the airport also charges fines for an airline who remains at the gate past the scheduled departure.

Airlines should insist that the only location, once sterile, is aboard an aircraft where the airline can exercise their duty of care and witness/control how much alcohol you consume.

At the end of the day I think an unruly fuelled by alcohol is much more of a danger to FAs, passengers, and the aircraft that one terrorist with explosive testicles could ever be.

I started bringing chocolates for the flight crew after you (or one of your blogging) colleagues mentioned how much they appreciated it. I don't want to look like I'm doing it for any perks (I'm really not), so I try to have them ready for whomever greets me as I board instead of flagging someone down at my seat.

I know how badly behaved travelers can be and how quickly they can lash out at hard-working FAs. I hope my best behavior--and my chocolates--help a little.
