Cruising Casinos

A floating casino is very possibly the best of both worlds!  Picture yourself relaxing on deck of a beautiful cruise liner after which you enjoy a wonderful dinner and then it’s time for the night life.  Many well-known Cruise ships such as Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean International are the leaders in having full service casinos onboard for any range of player from “high rollers” to amateurs.

Until recently, cruise lines have had a hard time getting people to look at casinos on the ship as more than just another shipboard activity. Especially since anyone can play casino games, at anytime at online casinos. They inhabited small spaces tucked away from the main decks of the ship and only appealed to the diehard players. But casinos on today’s “floating cities”, are a completely different story. Cruise ship casinos today look as though you have just entered the Vegas Strip. Beautifully decorated, inviting and full of the glamour and the hype you would expect from a major casino but now on water.

The big challenge though, was to get the passengers through the door. With many people taking cruises for reasons other than the fun that casinos offered, people simply did not bring large amounts of money for the tables or the slots. So the effort to get the novice player through the door with lessons for the beginners as well as affordable slots and buy-ins made the step across the threshold for even the spectators a lot easier. And what a great success because once you are in it is hard to leave. Just try playing Caribbean stud poker!

There is always something intimidating and scary about a place where you could lose your money. Putting passengers at ease by making them feel like they were already high rollers, though they maybe did not know how to roll at all, was a step in the direction of making the casino a reason to take a cruise and not the afterthought.
