It was a Great Day in St. Louis! – Part 1
Literally! On May 9th I headed to St. Louis, MO with Sara Keagle to appear on the television show Great Day St. Louis on the 10th that airs on CBS at 10am. But, that’s not all. From the moment we arrived in St. Louis we knew we were going to enjoy our stay.
I arrived at 1:20pm from Los Angeles via Phoenix and New York (don’t ask!) and waited around the airport for about an hour and a half for Sara to arrive. Once she landed from Houston we headed off to Downtown!
Originally, the hotel we were staying with offered to drive us to/from the airport but because of our schedules and the time different we decided that we could make our way to Downtown on our own.
We located a St. Louis visitors center and asked them about the fastest, cheapest way to get from the airport to the Four Seasons Hotel. At first, both representatives behind the counter had no idea that there was even a Four Seasons in St. Louis, but I later spotted it on a map while one of them was looking at it also, so I was able to pin point for them that the hotel does exist and it’s location. We decided to take the MetroLink, a convenient train located right in the airport terminal that took us right into Downtown for $3.75 (even though all the promotional flyers that the visitors center gave us said $2.75). Anyway, as the representatives from the visitors center was telling us which stop to get off at, she let it said: “If you miss your stop, you’ll end up in Illinois.” Sara and I both laughed, thinking she was joking and using that as a figure of speech, but she wasn’t. I had no idea (or maybe I did and I just forgot) that Missouri and Illinois were so close together. So close in fact that the Mississippi river dives the two states and the border could be seen right from my hotel room. About 15 minutes later, we arrived in Downtown and walked about 2 blocks to our hotel.
To both of our amazement, as we approached the hotel’s front doors, a door man ran over to greet us. “Hello Mr. Laurie and Ms. Keagle, we’ve been waiting for you. Welcome to The Four Seasons.” What?! He knew who we were? Here we are walking from the train, two random people and he knew exactly who we were. Sara asked him how he knew, twice, and he never answered. He quickly took us into an elevator to the 8th floor of the hotel, where the lobby is situated. Once the elevator doors opened on the 8th floor, another gentleman was standing there with two room keys. “Welcome to The Four Seasons Ms. Keagle and Mr. Laurie, here are your rooms, and we’ll take you up there right now.” By this point, I’m already astonished. I couldn’t believe how everyone knew who we were and how amazingly they were prepared for our arrival like we were A-list celebrities.
We first went to Sara’s room (I had the same room layout a floor above hers),
and once the door opened.. we were in shock. It was almost as if we had never seen a hotel room before. These rooms are spacious with floor to ceiling windows giving you an unobstructed view of the Mississippi river, a living room area, desk work area, a huge flat screen TV, mini bar with snacks, and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in. I didn’t even get to mention the bathroom yet. First of all, I’m not the type of guy who likes to take a bath. But, this bath tub at the hotel was more like a pool. So much so, I had to. Each bathroom had a stand-up shower with a regular shower head and the option to switch on the type that
rains from above you (my choice!), the tub I just spoke about, a separate room for the actual facilities, a huge vanity area with a mirror that had a TV built into it! Yes, there was a TV in the mirror that was viewable from any part of the bathroom. Check out the video to see what I’m talking about. Just amazing.
Once we finally came down from our high of seeing our amazing rooms, we quickly freshened up so that we could head over to the Stadium Grill to have dinner with Cassidy, a member of the PR team for Lumiere Place Casino and Hotels. We were lucky enough to be in St. Louis on the night of the 10th, because it was opening night for this particular restaurant on their property and it didn’t disappoint by far! Check out a post coming in the next few days specifically about Stadium.
Cassidy was great company and incredibly gracious. Honestly, it felt as though the three of us had been friends for a while rather than just having met and speaking via email. At one point, we almost convinced her to become a flight attendant (just kidding!.. well, maybe just a little bit).
Following dinner Sara and I went back to The Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis to have a drink with a friend of hers who lives in St. Louis. We decided to have a drink on the roof top bar at the hotel. The atmosphere was breathtaking and the weather couldn’t have been better. We each had a glass of wine and talked for about an hour before Sara & I headed up stairs to record an episode of The Crew Lounge and prep for our appearance the next morning.
Stay Tuned for Part 2! Next Monday!
