#TravelTuesday Tip: Sit forward for your back.

The following is true for most airlines.

When selecting your seat for your next vacation try to avoid selecting a seat forward of an exit row. Generally speaking, your seatbacks in these rows won’t recline because the airline/FAA doesn’t want you to block the exit at any time.

Some aircraft are equipped with “levers” which allow the flight attendants to “lock” and “unlock” the recline on these rows but they’re becoming harder to find.

Most websites like Expedia/Orbitz won’t notify you that you’ve selected a non-reclining seat.

When in doubt check on your air carriers website first.

Will seatguru.com help you not pick these non-reclining seats?

It certainly helps to check SeatGuru. For the two airlines I fly most often, the seat maps are pretty accurate. Once in a while there are two seating configurations, where the exit row numbers can change.
