Flightster Friday: Gifting to your Flight Attendants

This is going to be one of those posts that not everyone agrees with. But, it’s true of any airline.

As airline employees, when we fly or “non-rev” (travel as a non-revenue making passenger), it’s usually in good taste to bring the crew a gift. Whether it be chocolates, candy, packaged cookies, it’s a sign that you appreciate the free or reduced fare ride and thank them for their hospitality in advance.

As a commuting flight attendant I would always bring the crew of my commute flight home something to eat. Usually, it was chocolate. I wasn’t able to fly my own airline from San Francisco to Phoenix, so I always flew either Southwest or US Airways and I felt that as a thank you for their allowing me on board, for free, twice a week, the least I could do was give them chocolate.

Usually when you hand over a present like that the flight attendants faces light up. Almost as if this was the best present they’ve ever received. I know its true, I’ve done it. Usually by giving them something you gain some perks.

Find out what those perks are, if they only apply to airline employees and more by clicking here to read the rest of my post on Flightster.com.
