Absolutely Divine Passengers

Okay, so you caught me. I started a blog named “Plane&Simple” and I had high expectations for it. However, my boyfriend came up with a great name for a blog that at first I denounced but later I took a liking to. I figured, since I really haven’t written in “Plane&Simple” yet that I should just make the switch now. Welcome to “Up Up & a Gay.”

I’m in the middle of a 4 day right now, day 3 actually, and yesterday I had an interesting couple in First Class. They acted like they had never sat in first class before, and almost thought they had to speak a certain way. Every time I offered them something it was “thanks, this absolutely fabulous” or “this looks superbly divine.” No, they were not British. What really ticked me though when was she was using the restroom I did my appetizer service. Since she wasnt at her seat I built her appetizers onto her try with her entree (yes, she was in there that long) she was not to pleased that she wasnt served the appetizers but rather given them. Anyway, since she had her entree I wanted a little before offering to add desert to her tray. I went over about 10 minutes later and her entree was untouched, I offered her the desert and she said “actaully, it would be divine if you waited a bit longer as I haven’t yet touched my absurdly fabulous entree” Umm, Ok. So I waited. 15 minutes later I returned and she was asking for desert. Her entree, untouched. I could have smacked her. Anyway.. she takes the desert and asks for a chardonnay with “2 ice cubes, not 3, 2.” I handed over her chardonnay, and she requested a new napkin. The one she had she was using as a coaster, and thats all it was used for thus far. She said “my napkin is old.” What I should have done was take out a tray with just a napkin on it and use tongs to present it to her. But, I didnt think of it. Instead I threw on that fake smile and handed her a new one.

Today from LA to New York, the one flight you expect people like yesterday, not a issue! Infact, we had Jeff Goldblum in First, he’s a really nice guy. It’s nice to serve people who appreciate what you do and say please and thank you. He was nothing but polite as were the rest of them.

I’ve been flying with the same crew now for 7 days, it will be 8 days but the time this trip is over. I’m going to miss the comfort level that comes with knowing how everyone works and knowing that as purser I don’t have to worry about the flight attendants working in the back. They know how to put out their own fires and handle difficult people. Plus, they’re great to work with and hang out with once we get on the ground. I’ll miss them!

Anyway, I guess I should get to bed. I’m working 2 legs tomorrow. 2 whole legs.. thats a lot for this senior mama. Especially since one of them is a short-haul leg. I don’t like those. It takes me back to my regional days.

Good Night!
